This performance gives three different applications for the word "folks". The first part of this evening's performance will bring the audience several folksong from different parts of our globe, include "English Folksong Suite" by Vaughn-Williams, a Brazillian work "Algeria do Carnival" and "An American Fantasie", featuring folksongs closer to home.
The Symphony Orchestra will be making a special dedication with Grieg's "Holberg Suite" to former music director Jon Borowicz, a great folk. Dr. Borowicz was music director of the Wausau Symphony in the years before, during and after the organization's transition from simply a symphony orchestra to a chamber orchestra, wind ensemble (symphonic band today) and chorus. He was more than insturmental in conducting the changes that shaped the organization that performs for you today. He passed away last year, however will be a vital part of our organization's ongoing history.
The last application for the word "folks" applies to our audience, as a special treat rounds our this specificially geared performance for all family members (i.e. you and your folks!). We will be presenting "The Journey of Sir Douglas Fir", a reader's musical based on a heartwarming north-woods tale. Click to find out more.
