Read Me Music is an outreach program designed to reach students in preschool to upper grade school. Symphonic Band members and volunteers act out a children’s book that depicts a style of music. Plenty of singing and dancing fill the show, as well as several musical lessons.
Our 2005-06 performance featured the story of Froggy Plays in the Band. Starring Froggy and his friends, students were able to meet all the musical instruments, including the clarinet, the piccolo, the trumpet, the trombone and even the tuba! Over 600 were in attendance at our performances, and each and every one of those children (and adults acting like children!) helped Froggy and his friends remember "Don’t look left...Don’t look right...And don’t stop for anything!" |

Audience members were also treated to a special band concert following the play, and received
some very special "aural" treats! All aboard!
A hearty thanks goes out to our volunteers who made this event possible: Ted and Jennifer Aarrestad, Tom Bourke, John Buettgen, Ted Bullman, Nancy Dean, Jon Greenwood, Margaret Higginbotham, Judy Kafka, Diane McCauley, Kay Meyer, Cathy and Jeff Mitchell, Emalyn Nikstad, Ron Olson, Louis Pradt (Froggy!), Chad Premeau, Patty Roets, Vicki Weaver and Bob Wylie.
Piggies in a Polka was our story for 2004-05. Featuring local area polka dancers, including the Pommerin Verin and the Wausau Polka Club, students were able to learn and try out different types of polkas and waltzes. Not only that, but students also heard the rousing tale of Porkina and the rest of the Piggies in town, as they ventured to the yearly Hootenanny!
In 2003-04 season, we presented Mama Don’t Allow, the story of a possum named Miles who only wanted to play his saxophone. When he joins a band with his friends, they land a gig playing for an alligator party—little did they know that the alligators planned for them to be dessert! This was an exploration of jazz featuring a very happy ending—the band played a lullaby and escaped!
